Step 1: Wash twists, focusing on the front of your scalp

Start by rinsing the hair well under the shower or spray nozzle. Make sure hair is thoroughly saturated before applying shampoo. Distribute shampoo on hair to wash twists, focusing on the front of the scalp toward the hairline. Massage shampoo into scalp for about a minute. Rinse thoroughly, letting the suds run through the rest of the hair. Use the pads of your fingers to release dirt from the scalp. Lift hair to ensure that all shampoo has been rinsed away well.

Step 2: Condition, focusing on the length of your natural hair

Use a liberal amount of conditioner on the hair, focusing on the length of your natural hair, not the scalp. Apply in a downward motion. There’s no need to condition to the length of the synthetic hair. Rinse the conditioner out well with warm water. Follow with a cool-water rinse to help lock in moisture and reduce frizz.

Step 3: Dry with a towel or t-shirt

Bending at the waist, wrap a t-shirt or towel around the back of your head. Twist and tuck to secure and dry hair. Let hair dry for approximately five minutes. As an alternative to wrapping hair, you can also squeeze the excess water out of your hair with a towel.

Step 4: Moisturize, focusing on length and hairline

Apply a thick, creamy leave-in conditioner to the front of the hair and hairline first, then add more through the rest of the hair and down the length. Smooth gently down the braids, focusing on your natural hair. Remember to add leave-in conditioner to the nape area.

Step 5: Seal hair with your favorite natural oil

Apply your favorite oil (using a spray bottle makes this easy) all over the hair, including around the hairline and nape. Rub in/smooth into hair.

Step 6: Finish your freshly washed twists and style as usual

Use your usual styling products to finish your style. You may choose to use gel and a silk scarf to smooth edges, then style as usual.
